One of the most frequent questions that hit a stoner’s mind is: Can my weed go bad?

But honestly, we don’t ever let our marijuana sit idle for a long enough time to actually find it out. We usually consume it much before the time, we have heard, it may take to go bad. So, finding out the answer to this question is really not easy.

But actually, the question here is quite legitimate. There might come a time when you have to keep it idle for some time. For instance, maybe you have to go to a state for some time where your medical marijuana recommendation isn’t legal. Or maybe you got a job that requires you to go through drug screening, frequently. Or there might be any other reason. In these scenarios, knowing if your product can actually go bad or not can really come in handy.

So, in this article, we’re gonna help you find the answer to this very question.

Can Weed Go Bad?

If we’re talking about if it can make you sick or something, the answer probably is yes.

But it, actually, depends on how exactly it has gone bad. If it’s just old, then you’re probably safe. Old weed isn’t gonna make you sick. However, the experience can be a little overwhelming.

Old weed can be harsh sometimes. It may make you cough a lot and may lead to a sore throat. Also, the product won’t be as potent as the fresh ones. So, consuming it won’t make you as trippy as you’d like, or you may not get as much of a relief from your pain as you were thinking.

But there is one other way your weed may go bad. Let’s talk about it.

Moldy Weed

The most serious thing a marijuana consumer may come across is a moldy weed. The moldy weed can give you some serious health issues. So, it’s important to check if your bud is rotten or not. And if it is, just get rid of it.

The two most common weed molds you may come across are:

  1. Botrytis Cinerea or Bud Rot

  2. Aspergillus

While bud rot is less dangerous of the two, it may still leave you with severe lung damage. On the other hand, the aspergillus can cause some very serious infections, which may include severe fatigue, cough, bleeding airways etc.

Both the molds are quite dangerous to your health. And therefore, you should avoid them at any cost.

How to Save your Weed from Going Back

Most experienced stoners use airtight glass mason jars to keep their weed fresh. When these jars are closed, the oxygen cannot enter them. Also, the product inside is safe from changing humidity and temperature too.

However, the mason jars that are clear cannot protect your products from going brittle and dry due to the sunlight. And therefore, it’s important for you to keep the jar in a dark place away from the direct sunlight. Also, you should not store different strains together.

Otherwise, they may lose their psychoactive effects and aroma.

If you follow these instructions above, you can easily keep your marijuana in a good condition for a very long time.
